COLDSTREAM 鈥 Vernon North Okanagan RCMP verified Monday details on a devastating house fire that occurred in Coldstream last Thursday afternoon that resulted in one fatality.

On July 24, shortly after 2 p.m., emergency crews responded to a fully-involved residential fire on Kalview Drive. The home was completely destroyed, and tragically, one person who was inside at the time has now been confirmed deceased. The victim has been identified, and their family has been notified. The name of the victim won鈥檛 be released.

鈥淭his is a heartbreaking tragedy, and our thoughts are with the family and everyone affected during this incredibly difficult time,鈥 states RCMP spokesman Cst. Chris Terleski said in a statement.

The cause of the fire remains undetermined and while the investigation is ongoing, there is no indication of criminality at this time. The Coroner continues to investigate.

In Rutland, fortunately no one was home when a Rutland house caught on fire Sunday morning.

Firefighters were called to the home in the 700 block of Hollywood Road about 11:30 a.m. when passers-by observed smoke and flames.

鈥淭he fire was extinguished with several hose lines and ventilated to remove smoke. The home sustained significant damage,鈥 Kelowna Fire Department platoon captain Micah Volk said.

鈥淭here was no one home at the time of the fire, and all residents were accounted for,鈥 Volk said.

About two dozen firefighters worked the blaze.
