Granfondo

Cyclists are pictured during Sunday morning's Granfondo event in Penticton, perhaps unaware at the time of a fatality.聽

After radio silence for two weeks, Okanagan Granfondo Penticton officials made a statement about the death of a cyclist at this month鈥檚 event.

鈥淚n all the years we鈥檝e operated Okanagan Granfondo Penticton we鈥檝e never had a tragedy of this magnitude,鈥 said Jodi Cross, executive director of the event, in a statement released Tuesday.

鈥淥ur work now is to provide support and care to our cyclists, volunteers and staff who have been impacted by the incident.鈥

Cross said the event has been in personal contact with the victim鈥檚 family as well as the two other cyclists injured in the crash, both who have now been released from the hospital.

Participants of the event have received two emails with follow up information should they require support and how to access it, as well as the offer to connect with a special RCMP line specific to trauma assistance.

It鈥檚 unknown if the race or the City of Penticton, partners in the event, will be facing any legal action.
