Seven homes near a wildfire in Ellison remained on evacuation order overnight.
Another 105 properties were on evacuation alert, the Central Okanagan Emergency Operations Centre reported.
The Whelan Creek fire was spotted Sunday afternoon and grew to six hectares before being brought under control by firefighters.
Ellison fire department was leading the response with assistance from other local departments and the BC Wildfire Service, which supplied air support.
鈥淭he wildfire is displaying Rank 2 and Rank 3 fire behaviour meaning a surface fire with infrequent candling and a slow to moderate rate of spread,鈥 the wildfire service reported on its website.
鈥淭he Kelowna Fire Department is on scene working to contain the fire, which is currently burning uphill toward Postill Lake and several other nearby lakes that have cabins and campsites,鈥 Kelowna RCMP said in a news release on Sunday.
Kelowna airport was shut down for a time and many flights delayed or cancelled.
The arrivals and departures boards this morning showed just a few delays and only Prince George flights being cancelled.
On X this morning, Central Okanagan Emergency Operations said: 鈥淪moke will increase & decrease from the Whelan Creek Wildfire today. No growth overnight. An assessment is underway & more information will be provided this afternoon.鈥
Six properties on Rockface Road and one on Dead Pine Road were evacuated. An Emergency Support Services reception centre was set up at Beasley Community Centre in Lake Country.
Highway 97 traffic was not affected by the fire, Drive BC reported.
