LANGLEY — The Okanagan Sun shook off a slow start and delivered a dominant performance Saturday, racking up over 400 yards of offense in a convincing 39–0 road win over the Langley Rams to open the BC Football Conference (BCFC) season.
After a quiet first quarter, the Sun found their rhythm behind a balanced offensive attack and a stifling defense that kept the Rams off the scoreboard.
Newly acquired running back Gerren Hardisty made an immediate impact in his return to the BCFC. The former York University and Westshore Rebels player carried the ball 16 times for 70 yards and two first-half touchdowns. He added 42 receiving yards on four catches.
Okanagan led 23–0 at halftime, thanks in part to a key defensive play in the second quarter. Defensive lineman Jarveon Williams recovered a Rams fumble and returned it 55 yards for a touchdown, swinging momentum firmly in the visitors’ favour.
Quarterback Liam Kroeger added a goal-line rushing touchdown in the third quarter, and rookie wide receiver Chase Scrivener capped off the scoring with a 43-yard touchdown reception in the fourth.
Kroeger completed 16 of 24 passes for 260 yards, with wide receiver Jordayne Falconer leading all receivers with five catches for 144 yards. Backup quarterback Marcus Christos also saw action late in the game, completing one of three passes — the lone completion being the touchdown to Scrivener.
The Sun defence was equally impressive, with first-year linebacker Phil Palmarin recording a team-high four solo tackles, one assisted tackle, and one special teams assist.
Rookie defensive lineman JaQuintis Summers made a strong debut, tallying three sacks, two tackles, two assists, one special teams tackle, and a forced fumble. Linebacker Benson Gruninger contributed with two tackles, two assists, a special teams tackle, and two quarterback sacks.
In total, the Sun amassed 303 passing yards spread across seven receivers and added 106 yards on the ground.
On special teams, kicker Liam Attwood was a perfect 5-for-5 on convert attempts, while punter Grady Hay averaged 35 yards on eight punts, totaling 280 net yards.
The Sun play their home opener Saturday against VI Raiders at the Apple Bowl, beginning at 7 p.m.
