Penticton Vees won a Family Day matinee today beating geographical rivals West Kelowna Warriors 5-4, Monday at the South Okanagan Events Centre.
The Vees remain first in the BCHL junior hockey league with a 31-7-4-0-0 record, three points better than Trail Smoke Eaters which holds second spot overall in the Interior East.
Max Heise, Eli McKamey, Michael Fisher, Ben Merrill and Ryden Evers scored for the Vees, which led 3-0 by the 7:15 mark of the third period.
Elias Callgren, Ian Alonso and Caden Kemkaran-Humble replied for the Warriors, who roared back to tie the score 3-3 by 2:56 in the third. Callgren added a second goal late in the game.
Will Ingemann made 20 saves in the win. Bor Glavic made 20 saves.
The same teams meet Saturday in West Kelowna beginning at 7 p.m. In the meantime, Penticton travels to Salmon Arm on Friday. The Warriors, meanwhile, will host Cranbrook Bucks, Friday at 7 p.m.
