A new art installation at the lower Knox Mountain lookout will feature the works of three Syilx artists.
The works by Krystal Withakay, Emily Pooley and Les Louis are located within a structure said to be inspired by the tuktanixw, a summer home that was used for shelter during harvest from early spring to late fall.
Poles that make up the structure are engraved with red pictographs representing the four food chiefs, whose teachings guide the syilx people.
The artworks offer the artists’ views of the land’s transformation throughout the year.
The City of Kelowna says it is working with Indigenous partners to include Nsyilxcn names and language, cultural history and traditional practices in the signage at Knox Mountain Park.
