A man was arrested in an unusual turn of events after walking himself into police custody-just moments after parking a stolen truck near the Kelowna RCMP detachment.
Officers with the RCMP鈥檚 Proactive Enforcement Unit observed a suspicious white Ford F350 in the 700 block of Coronation Avenue. The driver, later identified as 43-year-old Michael Scott Miller, parked the vehicle at a nearby apartment complex and walked a block away鈥攕traight to the RCMP Detachment.
While Miller was heading to the detachment, officers confirmed the Ford F350 had been reported stolen in Penticton a week earlier. Officers, then observed the suspect enter the jail waiting area of the detachment, where he was promptly arrested without incident.
Miller now faces several charges including possession of stolen property, driving while disqualified, and two counts of failing to comply with probation. He was remanded in custody and is scheduled to appear in court on July 2.
鈥淭he circumstances of this arrest were definitely not common and made our job much easier,鈥 said Cpl. Guillaume Tanguay of the Proactive Enforcement Unit. 鈥淭his wouldn鈥檛 have happened without the keen eye of our officers during the execution of their duties鈥攅ven if it鈥檚 a block away from their office.鈥
