UBCO study

A UBCO-City of Kelowna research project is looking at the technological, financial and environmental feasibility for developing rapid battery charging for transit and fleet vehicles, a city report says.

A series of research projects by the City of Kelowna and UBC Okanagan will be completed over the next 14 months, council heard on Monday.

A study looking at whether an autonomous transportation system could be set up on the rail trail is slated for completion by next June.

Answers on whether Kelowna鈥檚 bus fleet can be electrified with a rapid charging system should be available by April.

The feasibility of converting buildings to solar power will be answered by August 2026.

A study on whether wood waste from the landfill can be converted into biochar bricks is set for completion this September.

And a study on building a sustainable aquatic centre that lowers disinfectant use and improves air and water circulation and quality is slated to be complete by December 2027.

The city and UBCO will be looking at further research projects to collaborate on this summer, council heard.
