Mario Kart World takes the tried and true formula of Mario Kart and evolves the game with new tracks and abilities.
The visuals are the first thing players will notice coming from Mario Kart 8. The game upgrades the visuals making the entire experience look sharper and more detailed. When comparing things like the road and characters to previous Mario Kart the visual upgrades are very apparent. The road for example is more textured and looks more realistic. The characters have both more detail and textures then previous games. The entire game looks sharper with more detail.
I have been playing Mario Kart since the game first came out on the Super Nintendo so I can say I'm pretty well versed in the series. One of the biggest additions to the game is the open world. Players can explore this 鈥渨orld鈥 in different modes and in free roam. The world has a number of things to do. Players can find secrets, collect coins, explore tracks to find shortcuts and more. There are a ton of things to do and explore in this world.
Mario Kart World adds new abilities to keep the game feel fresh after all these years. Charge Jump which can help you dodge hazards and enemy attacks. Rail Riding let's players grind on ropes and rails above tracks. Wall Riding is the same as Rail riding but just on the wall around the track.
These new tricks will charge your turbo faster making performing these actions worthwhile.
Let's talk about the different modes of the game's different modes.
Knockout Tour is a race mode where 24 players compete against each other through different tracks. Players must reach a certain placement before checkpoints are knocked out. This mode is a true test of your karting skills and will test you against players around the globe. With each cut the mode gets harder until there is only kart remaining winning the mode. If you want to try the mode, be prepared for a challenge. I'd personally recommend practising the other modes to get better at both the tracks and the karts in general to stand a chance of the mode.
Grand Prix is the main mode of Mario Kart World. In this main mode players race other racers across 4 tracks getting points depending on placement on those tracks.
During Grand Prix players will also race across the open world map to reach the next race in the series. The player with the most points in the four tracks is crowned the winner.
Versus Races is a mode where players can set up private lobbies with friends setting up different rules and even routes.
The player can tailor these races to their liking.
Time Trials is great for getting to know a track and getting better at knowing the layout.
The player has no other power ups in this mode other than three mushrooms.
Ghost Mode let's players download ghosts of racers around the globe letting you see how they complete tracks, giving you different ideas and insight to get better in the different tracks.
Battle Mode pits players against one another to complete that mode's objective within a certain time frame.
The game has around 30 tracks with a mix of older tracks revamped and new ones.
With a large number of characters to unlock in various ways from completing cups and more.
If past Mario Kart titles are anything to go by, this game will receive new track dlc coming sometime in the future.
Mario Kart has always been a blast to play with friends and this game is no different. I spent many hours playing with friends just completing different tracks to see which one of us is the best, or challenges in the world map.
The game's controls are spot on and precise even with the fast paced action. If you're looking for something that will show you some of the power of the Switch 2 this game is for you. If you loved Mario Kart 8 again this is a great game that will likely see more and more content coming later down the line from Nintendo.
10/10
