VICTORIA (Staff) 鈥 A 6.5-month-old golden retriever puppy, now named Air Bud, was surrendered to the BC SPCA qathet Community Animal Centre with severe wounds requiring urgent care.
He was immediately taken to a local vet to treat two untreated 4-inch lesions under his front legs, caused by an embedded harness.
鈥淚n our outdoorsy coastal region, it鈥檚 not unusual to see minor scrapes from pets being active,鈥 says Tara Daniels, manager of the qathet Community Animal Centre. 鈥淏ut wounds this severe are rare. Even as someone who grew up on a farm, it was hard to look at the deep lesions around Air Bud鈥檚 armpits and sides.
The worst part is knowing he endured this preventable injury with no treatment or pain relief.鈥
