Couples squabble nearly as much about bedtime use of electronic devices as they do about the bedroom鈥檚 temperature, a survey done for BC Hydro says.听
Twenty per cent of British Columbians said the partner鈥檚 phone or tablet use was their most annoying sleep habit. That was second only to snoring, at 43 per cent.听
About 33 per cent of couples report having arguments about the best bedroom temperature for nighttime. Women are twice as likely to initiate such disputes, according to the survey.
Men are more likely to be hot heads, preferring warmer bedroom temperatures, the survey says.听
The survey information was contained in a usual wintertime release from BC Hydro offering advice on the best temperature settings during the winter. The Crown owned utility recommends 16 C for sleeping, 18 C when cooking or doing housework, and 21 C when relaxing or watching TV.听
To try limit arguing in the bedroom, BC Hydro says couples could try using 鈥渟eparate duvet covers or wearing warmer or cooler pajamas to bed to help ease temperature tensions鈥.听
Also, to limit disputes about late-night electronic device use, the bothered partner should try wearing a sleep mask, BC Hydro advises.
- A $25 discount is available until Feb. 21 from BC Hydro for select programmable thermostats bought from certain retailers. See the BC Hydro webpage for details.听
